Undesired or Boring Writing

Undesired writing or writing that is boring is everywhere. Everyone wants to create the next big story. However, what about having it be interesting and show the writers style? This approach has been used to create famous books that over time have turned into movies such as: Chronicles of Narnia series, 20,000 leagues under the sea, The lord of the rings series, and hunger games. This undesired writing in most cases involves mindless writing or choppy writing or both. But interesting writing is not boring in subject.

            Writing that is not boring entices the reader to continue reading not push them away. Not writing mindlessly entices the reader to continue reading. Instead of thinking, the content is dull or boring the writer wants to continue their read. Mindless writing puts emphasis on older subjects like poetry and older ways of life that are long gone. It writes about the 18th and19th century, but does not think ahead to the future and is stuck in its ways. Updated literature assignments with more creativity will allow students to experience rich literature without bringing up every classic work from the past. Movies reviews allow the writer to write about something that interests them without the dullness of reading hamlet or Romeo and Juliet such as the new Romeo and Juliet movie updated to gangs instead of competing families with Jet Li in it and the style students prefer now over the old style reading and movie. Another non-boring writing would be a mini 5-minute movie script for an assignment that gets the student thinking creatively about what went into a creative play or movie that we watch now and how it differed form plays in years long past (movies are in a general sense are very extensive plays with specific scenes and special effects).

 

Note: I have no doubts as to my teachers skills as a writer. This was more or less a way to show how literature classes could be improved. I strongly recommend the mini movie script writing though, because under the disguise of MOVIE script the student will not think twice about writing their own movie script instead of a play script which are similar.

 

Speech and writing, related?

            Speech has been around since before we could intelligent and understandable sentences. Stories were passed around the campfire in the old days before anyone started writing. Writing is used to instruct people on proven methods some of which are still used today and old culture, which does not exist anymore like some of the Indians language.  Today we use the telephone and electronic communication over the computer. Today’s writing has been put into a person’s personal learned style.

            This learned style came in two forms: physical/visual and impersonated. Impersonation involves a person imitating their favorite actor, real life hero, or imaginary character. The usual result is a person develops their writing style and style of communication around the individual imitated whether real or not. The physical/visual learning style involves visual and physical contact with something or someone. The people who use this learning style like to learn by doing themselves or are learn by watching other people do a task. Examples of physical learning include, but are not limited to science classes with labs (visual learning and learn by example), programming classes where a person is supposed to make a program that does a specific task by following the instructions, and  doing community work.

Old english punishment and ways.

Writing has changed since the old days. It used to consist of a feather dipped in ink and words written on a piece of paper. Now, there are computers and other word processing tools to assist even the worst writer in producing a wonderful looking paper. This technology has distracted writers from being able to write. Technology has grown significantly in the writing realm and the punishments for incorrect grammar.

In ancient days, writing was to help royalty or rich people and not available to peasants. To make sure they could write letters for negotiation of peace or persuade the other side to back down. The punishment in back in these days for insulting royalty was usually severe and resulted death or a long prison sentence. Today the punishment has not gotten any less severe according to the article link below from New York Times on a person insulting someone of the royal family: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/20/world/asia/20thai.html?_r=0.

So ask yourself these questions: Are you writing proper grammar, so as not to appear to be insulting a king, queen, or royal family? (if someone living in England or a monarch based country) Are you ruining their reputation now? Are you using degrading material? Answering yes to anyone of the above can be the difference between a prison sentence or being popular.

Writing with technology on the side

                Computers and technology have changed the form writing takes in this generation of adults. Without todays technology, most adults would not be able send letters of an intelligible response. Handwriting skills have declined as computers with word processors have appeared.  This begs the question: what was it like before computers and technology?  

            Before computers and technology, writing in cursive or handwritten words was extremely important. Only professional men and royalty could afford to invest money in college or proper schooling. Professionals included: high priests, scribes, school teachers, business men, royalty servants and staff (messengers, generals, etc.). Royalty included kings, tsar’s (Russian ruler similar to king), dictators, and other group forms of ruling. After computers appeared technology changed everything for writing. Now the common folk could write and make intelligible responses that could be understood. First, typewriters allowed for writing that did not look like a doctor’s cursive writing. Then, computers added word processing with spell checking to prevent spelling errors in writing.  Computers added the ability to write scripts, whole books, and research papers faster with programs. Computers have aided in organization of information, so it can be obtained faster and aid professionals in their work. Who knows, someone might invent a program for turning personal videos into a written paper? Will it be you?

Is Writing expressed in video games?

                      Writing is expressed in many different forms such as the background which includes books, magazine articles, and scholarly resources to the foreground such as movies and video games. It takes on a new form in discussion boards and email.  Writing involves telling a story to the reader in written form but is this new form used in a video game? Video games are essentially an interactive movie allowing choice. What is one major way writing is expressed in video games?

            The answer to this question is the campaign. The campaign has two major advantages for video games: it aids storytelling with visuals, and allows the author of the games script to change it for inconstancies.  Visual story telling allows the writer to see the consequence before he writes his next script for the next choice for a character. For example, I shoot at a switch to open a door which opens up with enemy AI standing in the middle of the room.  Visual story telling would allow the writer to see the effect of alterative choices on the human reaction such as: happy when you are playing the good guy and defeat the bad guy, play the bad guy and change sides, or some humor from characters like a character saying: "I meant to do that". Writing has always been important to our media and will never change.

Media will define our next generation and writing will go to the background but still be important in our lifes.

Influence of writing on Video Game and Movie scripts

Writing had its start in books, poems, manuscripts, and other important documents. In time, computers showed up changing job responsibilities to visual form.  This technology brought about movies and video games which are in essence more elaborate plays. Writing has influenced elaborate script writing for movies and games. Script writing in turn tells the story for that game or movie.

Scripts for movies and games help to direct writing to visual form for an audience. Books and comics help influence a script that is being turned into movies such as chronicles of naria, batman, and superman.  It is common for major dialog, actions, and twists in the story for a movie to be taken from the original literature with the permission of the author.  Games have a special interactive storyboard script and involve deep visual storytelling, visual storyboards, and written scripts. Examples of game story telling include: choosing your path of action and dialogue in games such as mass effect, massive open  game worlds with hidden secrets and decisive action like in halo,  and  usage of real life scenarios in call of duty: modern warfare series spec ops missions. Scripts help explain reasoning behind a game or movies actions done a certain way.
Without script writing how could we have movies? We could not.

Most people lack creativity, whether it is in the arts, science, or in the form of personal expression. Creativity can be split up into many areas but there are three that stand out: Artistic, Scientific, and Mathematics. These areas help to express a person’s creativity in many means besides just writing alone such as art.

Artists used to express creativity by: painting, chalk, pencils, sculptures, and much more forms. Today’s art is being created on the computer though: drawing of 3d models, 3d projectors for content, and 3d printers to make physical prototypes. In the scientific area of creativity technology and forms of science, along with technical documents help scientists to express thoughts and ideas and help scientists overcome boundaries. In the mathematical area of creativity math formulas and short explanations are used to help the mathematical person express their ideas.
